What to do, what to do...
My free time at work just started to accumulate, so why not
create a page for daily observations and ponderings on life so I can occupy said
free time! What a great a idea, I think I just will...

September 28, 2002 - Hypno-what?
Quick bits from the week:
Monday - Monday was another one of those perfect weather days:
there wasn't a cloud in the sky, the temperature never changed and the wind
carried the wonderful aroma of fall. I wish I could get out and enjoy it
more. I installed Trillian and revived some of my old ICQ accounts that I
haven't used in 3 years. The instant I logged online someone I haven't
heard from in five years messaged me. Then I was bombarded by other
messages from people I haven't talked to online in 3 years. Now I remember
why I stopped using ICQ: it's not that I don't like talking to my friends
online, I just can't talk to 20 people simultaneously and keep my sanity.
I also started running with one of my friends from
downstairs. It was a good -mile jog, but the defining factor of the course was
the giant hill at the end (the one from Wells to Smith). When my friend
reached the top of the hill he promptly threw up his dinner and walked the rest
of the way back. I think that's a good start for someone who has never ran
before...
Tuesday - My T TH morning class was canceled this week so I
slept in. My classes went as usual, and I went to work after I got off. I was
suppose to finish my first program for my computer science class,
unfortunately I couldn't upload it since my account had not been created yet.
So my first program in computer science received a zero, what a great way to
start of the year. On a lighter night, this was the night that the
hypnotist came to the school to perform. I didn't get hypnotized on stage
this year but I almost was hypnotized while I was in the audience. I
woke out of it when my roommate commented to me about his girlfriend who was on
stage being hypnotized. The hypnotist did the same crazy antics he does
every year, but this time I knew someone personally on stage. My roommate's
girlfriend was one of the volunteers chosen to be on stage. We laughed as
we watched her freak out when the invisible ants crawled all over her, and it
was sad to see her leave. Somehow the hypnotist thought she wasn't far
enough in the trance to complete the show so he sent her and her neighbor back
to the audience. What he didn't realize was that she was so deep in the
trance that she didn't even hear his next command which is why she never
responded to his requests.. The rest of the show she sat next to us in the
audience, except she didn't laugh, smile, or respond. Instead Her and her
neighbor from the stage sat and watched the hypnotist's every move. When
he walked acros the stage their eyes followed him. While everyone else in
the audience was rolling on the floor laughing at the guy trapped by the pit
bull (which in reality was a balloon) she was staring mindlessly at the
hypnotist. She remained like this until the hypnotist woke all of his
subjects up at the end of the show. As we were leaving she
said "Well that sucked, he didn't do anything! He hypnotized people for
five minutes and then we left". She seriously thought we were only
there for five minutes instead of an hour and a half. We had a hard
time convincing her that the show was really alot longer than five minutes and
that she was under hypnosis the whole time. To this day she still doesn't
remember anything that happened that night...
Wednesday - Once again I showed up to every class and
survived an otherwise normal day.
Thursday - I procrastinated as usual this week so I had to
complete my second computer program for Foundations 2. I started at 9 PM
and didn't finish until 4:30 AM! I starting to think that I can't code an
entire Found2 program in one night, unlike my Found1 programs which took me 3
hours at the most. I guess I'll start my next program earlier.
Friday -
September 22, 2002 - A week in a peek
So much to talk about, so little time. For the most
part last week went off without a hitch. I went to my classes and worked
on my projects. I could probably go into great detail about the numerous
projects I have appointed to me, but I would rather not bore you to death this
early in the journal. This weekend I had my usual movie night with the
gang at my place. On Friday one of my friends (and my math student) joined
the group, plus three other people who had never been in my room. It
was a great night, we watched "Snatch" and then laughed at each others quips and
jokes. Unfortunately the night had to end earlier than usual because we
all had practice at 8 AM on Saturday morning. The practice itself was just
like any other practice, except it wasn't friggin hot anymore (thank the lord!).
After a few hours of rest and recuperation we were ready to for the football
game that day. The game wasn't much to talk about, but the humor that was
going on in the stands made the time fly. Before we knew it, we were free
to enjoy the rest of Saturday night. Once again I had roughly 8 people
show up to watch a movie at my place, but this time a special guest decided to
call to announce her arrival: my sister. She called to tell me she was on
her way to visit and meet all of my friends, and within 20 seconds of hanging up
the phone I was on a cleaning spree. You see, my sister has the
ability to report back to my parents about anything she sees me do (not that she
actually does it), therefore I have to try and impress her just as much as I do
my parents when my lifestyle is concerned. I couldn't let my sister walk
into a room that looked like a herd of elephants stampeded through (which isn't
to far from the truth), so I went all out to clean up my room in the short time
I had. When she arrived the place was spotless (or at least my half was)
and she was fairly impressed. More than anything though she was jealous
because compared to her dorm room, I live in a palace. I told her that's
how your freshman year usually though, you don't even get to see the good rooms
until your 3rd or 4th year. In the meantime she visited with all of my
friends and they talked about people they both knew. It truly is a small world
when my roommates know many of the same people my sister does, especially since
she goes to college in Louisiana and my roommates are from Texas. While my
sister chatted with everyone else in my room I was talking to the cute but
unattainable friend that accompanied her. She was one of the
freshmen that inspired my rant about the fish not doing anything, but after a
quick interrogation I am glad to announce she has improved and is in the process
of making alot of new friends. Soon after my sister departed and my
roommates and I proceeded to argue about whether Mr. Pink dies when he leaves
the safe house. Once we finished that debate I showed a demonstration of
Kingdom Hearts to the group and then we all went our separate ways.
Sunday came and went so fast that I really can't remember most of
it. For the most part I spent my time drawing and coloring the comic for
this site, plus making all of the graphical tweaks that were bugging the crap
out of me. Ironically, I didn't finish my comic about Warcraft on time
because the people portrayed in the comic called me and whispered "waaaarrrcraaaaafft"
and I ended up playing a two hour game against them.
September 15, 2002 - Get off my Bach
I never knew so many people relied on this page for their
source of mindless entertainment. Not a day went by this past week that
someone didn't ask me when I was going to update the page. I just hope my
meager activities make the wait worth it.
August 22-24 - Boot Camp. Summer band practice started on the
22nd and lasted until 8 PM at night. By the end of the day my feet were
killing me from standing and marching for so long. Practice took so much
out of me that I usually went to sleep right after band. Luckily I was
able to move into the new dorm so my sleeping accommodations were alot better
than they were last year. Hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures of
my room once I get it clean enough to take a picture.
August 25-27 - After the pain and torture my feet sustained during band
practice, I was more than glad to get off them and rest for three days.
For the most part I stayed in my room and set up all of my gadgets in the living
room and bedroom. Then my suitemates and I went out and explored the town,
taking the obligatory trip to Wal-Mart to pick up supplies which interestingly
enough only lasted 2 days in our room (we had serious munchies all weekend).
August 28-30 - Classes finally started on Wednesday but none of them
actually met for the full allotted time. In the meantime I met all of the
new people in the dorm including my new suitemate. After a few nights
after chatting I discovered some interesting facts about the suite:
There is one person from each class in the suite: 1 Senior, 1 Junior (me), 1
Sophomore, and 1
Freshman.
We each have birthdays in December, and so do the respective girlfriends of
members
in our suites.
All of us are in band
No two people have the same major, yet we each have a class with another person
other than
band.
3 of us have names the begin with "J"
There are 7 different machines to play video games/Audio CDs, 4 DVD players, 3
computers,
2 VCRs, 2 Fridges, 2 TVs, 1 set of 36' video speakers
attached to half of them, 1
Microwave, and a desk water fountain.
From what I've seen so far, our room is pretty kickin! It seems like there
is always a party going on since rarely are there less that 5 people in the room
at a time (4 suitemates + 3 girlfriends makes a good crowd).
During my frequent free time I played Warcraft with 3 others in the
dorm (isn't a LAN grand?)
August 31-
As for the rest of the days... well that's a story for another update!
