Sketches
In my Drawing 2 class we had to have a sketchbook (which we already should have in the first place) which we had to sketch pictures in before every class. Each week we received a new assignment and went out a sketched it and came back to show it off. Of course, being sketches, these picture aren't going to be masterpieces. And each sketch had a purpose, a technique to learn. I decided not scan all my sketches because there would be way too many pictures to put on here, and plus they are my own private sketches, some of them being quite personal. The two I have posted so far are drawn using a single contour line. The assignment was to draw a picture using one single continuous line (meaning never pick up the pencil) and to draw what we saw. Each drawing took maybe 5 minutes to draw, and were quite a bit harder to do than you may think. Since it has to be a single line, you can't erase, because to do so would mean picking up the pencil. On top of that, shading had to be done by meshing lines together, and perspective had to be achieved by making the "closer" lines darker and the "further" lines lighter. Not to mention my subjects were constantly moving (well at least the dog was). Finally, before any of you try to prove me wrong and tell me I did pick up the pencil, let it be known that I used VERY light lines to go from one place to another, and some of them may not have been picked up by the scanner. And on the two page spread, the wires in the center hindered my pencil so I probably did have to pick it up there. Anyways I hope you enjoy my sketches and maybe some more will turn up as I get around to drawing/scanning them.
P.S. The lady-in-the-pajamas actually *was* aware of my presence, so don't think I snuck into her dorm room and drew her without her permission because I didn't... at least not *this* time... (just kidding Mel ;)
P.P.S The newest sketch (far right)was one I did in class when I was bored. It was all the hairstyles of the people in the class. The letter next to each 'do tell me whose hair it was.
