One of my works-in-progress in the Music section is arranging music for the fan-made Final Fantasy 7 Piano Collections. Once the project started, we decided we needed a CD cover for it. I undertook the job and this is what I came up with. The 4 characters were drawn by JRG, and were originally in a collage he made. At the time I was picked to create the CD Cover I was already practicing my Photoshop Coloring skills on his black and white collage (which once I am finished coloring all of it, I will post it here). So I cut out the 4 main characters in FF7 out of the collage and put them on the cover. Then I used Photoshop to create the background and put a faded piano at the bottom. Also, since I had to cut the characters out of the original collage, there were parts of them missing where other characters had been in front of them. So I printed out the cut-out characters and manually drew in the missing pieces, scanned the pictures back in and presto-finished product! Also, before I posted the picture at the official FF7 PC site, I asked JRG's permission to use his drawings and sent him the picture. Here was his reply:
"Cool and great job on the coloring. Keep up the good work!! I dont mind if you use it as long as you give me credit for the pencils!!! Again good job!!"
Wow, my ego flew to the roof after that (oh dear god, that's the last thing we need). What really made this special was this was the FIRST time I had colored in Photoshop. In fact that's why I had his original picture in the first place, to learn how to color in Photoshop. Oh and like he asked, he has credit for the Pencils on the official site. That's the *least* he deserves for drawing such great pictures.
Check out the other cover designs I created as well!
