First piece (untouched) Looped running in place "Seamless" loop chocobomog
This is my on-going animation project which i have been working on
since last spring. It is a short 3 second clip of Chocobos dashing across
the screen (originally seen in a cut scene in FFX). I took the
first
animation piece and
positioned the camera on each frame so that it followed the chocobo across the
screen giving the appearance
of the chocobo running in place and only the background moving. To finish it off
I had to create a few frames of the chocobo's leg movement so that it would loop
fluidly between the running motions since the original animation didn't have a
full set of frames showing an entire
running motion. But I wasn't happy with the final effect, you could still
tell where the animation looped, as the back ground totally changed between the
scenes and the other chocobos disappear and reappear. My next project was
to make it so the animation loops seamlessly, and to do so I had to physically
place new backgrounds at in the last few frames so they would slide into the
first frame without notice. Then I had to place more running chocobos so
they wouldn't just flat out disappear and reappear when the animation loops.
Finally with a free tweaks of color here and there I got a piece I was
satisfied with. While it
still not totally seamless, it look alot better than the first one I made.
As soon as my "perfectionism gene" kicks in, I am sure I will work on the final
animation some more to make it impossible to tell where the animation starts and
stops. Until then enjoy the fruits of my labor ;)
On an interesting note, in order to create each new background I had to make a
new frame. In the end my original 17 frame animation had become 154 frames in
length. Of course those 154 frames were merged back into 17 to make it animate
correctly, but at least you know I put some hard work into this piece.
The most recent addition is my Signature animation.
I post under the name "chocobomog" in many different forums, so I created a
signature that represents my name. I added Mog the moogle (the white bear
creature) riding the chocobo and then proceeded to animate him by moving his
arms, legs, and wings in synch with the chocobo's movements. This actually
did not take too long, but removing the original background out of the chocobo
was fairly hard. I probably spent more hours working on the background
removal than I did placing Mog the moogle on the chocobo. Next, I changed
the background color to match the forums I predominantly post in (Gamingforce),
and since those forums rotate between two background colors I made the
animation's background do the same. Finally I placed my name (chocobomog)
on the piece because I know how easily people steal other's work and call it
their own. Sure I can't call this piece ALL my own since I didn't draw the
chocobo or the moogle, but I did put ALOT of work into editing an animation so
that it does not even resemble the original.
